The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has launched a consultation seeking the views of residents and businesses on plans for a potential new prison in Buckinghamshire, adjacent to the existing Grendon and Springhill prisons.
Originally, the consultation was announced to end on 24th December. A three week consultation is clearly not long enough, especially coming amid the Covid pandemic, in December when families minds are focused on preparing for Christmas and at a time when we are all overstretched - especially our parish councils in trying to deal with the day to day nightmares of HS2 and East West Rail construction.
At Ministry of Justice Questions in the House of Commons earlier today, Greg put this point to the Secretary of State for Justice, the Rt Hon Robert Buckland QC MP, who happily agreed to extend the consultation.
It is important to stress that no final decision has been taken on whether the Ministry of Justice will formally progress these proposals and no planning application has yet been submitted to Buckinghamshire Council.
Commenting, Greg said: "This consultation is an opportunity for the Ministry of Justice to hear views and receive feedback from local residents, business and public services before any formal decisions are taken. It is absolutely vital that everyone locally takes part and ensures our voice is heard loud and clear. I will be backing residents 100% on this and making a formal submission myself."
